Images 1979 This was a package of thirteen 15 minute programs produced in 1979 that are essentially a light hearted look at people in Britain, ordinary and extraordinary, what they do, how do they behave and why. All the programs are light viewing and were designed to meet the needs of those television stations that were looking for high quality products midway between entertainment and information to help balance their schedules. The concept for the programs arose from conversations that the London Television Service (LTS), the marketing arm of Film Division set up in 1976 had with television stations that were purchasing programsfrom LTS. In effect Film Division took a market led proposal and devised a series of subjects that reflected the FCO information objectives. Thus the programs demonstrated to television audiences in up to 60 countries aspects of the National Health Service, British concerns for the environment, equality of opportunity between the sexes, the way in Britainthe rule of law is by consent, and concern for disabled childrenamong the subjects presented through the 13 programs. The package consisted of the following programs: Art Around Uslooks at art as public property. The sort of art which is not just stacked on museum walls. We see it all around us in open spaces, in parks and squares. We see it but do we like it? Behind the Scenesis a look at what is happening in London in the world of opera and ballet with scenes from productions in 1980. Elegant ExertionsChris Bonington talks about mountaineering before program goes on to look at a variety of sports from hang gliding to skateboarding to a hot air balloon in flight. The law protects the community in practical ways from compensating customers who buy faulty goods to making it almost impossible to refuse a person employment because of their colour. Places for People what do we think of the places in which we live and work, is and do we want change? This report on three ventures in London is intended do show people ways of improving their own landscapes. The series was well received by television stations in many of the 60 countries to which it was marketed. Language versions in English, Arabic and Latin American Spanish were produced.
