Technical Services 1946 to 1959 The Technical Services section of Film Division was responsible for three areas of activity: Quality control: A first print of all new films was checked for quality of picture and sound together with any other defects. An approved print served as a bench mark for subsequent prints. The section had a technician and editing room for this purpose. It dealt with any technical issue that arose with film processing Laboratories. It was also the contact point for any issues arising from orders for distribution copies. Technical facilities: Film Division had two cinemas, one seating around 200 and the other about 90 people. Both were equipped to screen 35mm and 16mm films and could present films on closed circuit television. The closed circuit television system had a telecinefacility for both 35mm and 16mm. The system not only supplied a feed to the cinemas but also to the offices of senior staff in the division. Archive:vaults to store all materials, that is master copies, negatives of all COI and Crown Unit films were kept at Beaconsfield Studios. During the 1960s new purpose built vaults with up to date storage conditions including the special conditions for the storage of nitrate stock were built at a site at Hayes, Middelsex.
